The Hard Truth

You may have already heard (plenty of times over) that water softeners are a great investment. Sure, they make cleaning easier with less soap curd produced, softer skin, smoother hair, and plenty of other benefits that may sway you to invest in your own water softener, or you might think that those things aren’t such a big deal and why invest in something that isn’t really necessary. Well, let me tell you, from my own personal experience, that a water softener goes a long way. Especially when camping or traveling/living on the road. Whether you need a water softener for RV or for home, this is one investment you can be sure you won’t regret!

A few weeks ago, I was watching a dog in someone else’s home. I had watched this dog before, but never long enough for me to have to shower in their home. This time around, however, I stayed in their house with their dog for about four nights. I can’t go four days without showering now can I? No. Thus, a shower ensued.

Well, first of all the water didn’t get hot enough. It was just under lukewarm so while parts of me were mildly comfortable, the other parts were freezing and goosebumped. However, I endured. A cold-ish shower every now and then isn’t the worst thing. What I didn’t like, however, was the hardness of the water. I had heard about the difference between hard and soft water before, but I never really paid any attention to it. The water in my apartment was great and showers were always welcomed and enjoyed. It feels great to be able to take a hot shower while also feeling as though you are getting clean.

With this shower, however, in this “strangers” home, for some reason, I felt as if I was not getting as clean as I could have been if I were showering in my own home. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it, but then it dawned on me. Hard water. I had done enough reading on my own and had heard from plenty of people that, with hard water, soap doesn’t seem to foam enough. And boy, was this the case. Usually, I use about a quarter size amount of soap, shampoo, and conditioner in order to feel as if I’ve washed well enough. In this shower, however, I kept having to use more and more soap and hair products in order to feel clean. But even then, I still didn’t feel clean.

Now, I wasn’t going to hang around in that shower much longer. I was getting colder by the minute and just wanted to be done. So, it was time to rinse my hair. I guess I sort of felt as if my hair was getting rinsed, but it still felt heavy and I wasn’t convinced. I felt as if my hair still had built-up shampoo and conditioner in it; it didn’t feel clean and it didn’t feel good.

So, does this sound pleasant? No need to respond...I already know your answer. While dealing with this for a few days was uncomfortable, imagine having to deal with this for an entire season (or longer). Especially while living in an RV. Imagine spending a day hiking through nature only to get back to your RV, shower, and feel as if nature is still on you. Sand, dirt, bugs, sweat, sunscreen, bug spray, you name it. Everything you had hoped would wash off still feels stuck to your skin and your hair.

Even worse, you now have to crawl into bed. So, not only do you feel as if your body isn’t as clean as it could be, but, on top of that, your sheets feel like they are getting dirtier quicker and now you have to do laundry sooner. But, oh no, the problem isn’t the shower; it’s the water! So now you start to wonder if your clothes will even feel clean once they get washed and are your dishes really clean? What about the fruit you’re washing and eating? Think of everything that water touches! Well, now you’ve got a headache.

What a frustrating dilemma. You are out in your RV to enjoy a nice camping and travel adventure, but now you’ve just become stressed because of water. Nobody wants to deal with that. The solution to your problem? A water softener for RV. And you’ve come to the right place, too!
